Sto Lat!

Today would have been my mother’s 55th birthday. Like all other holidays, the absence of her presence on these celebratory days make her loss in my life ever more prevalent.

And yet, for the first time in years I can smile. Today I can break mental illness’s silence with a song:

Sto lat, sto lat, niech zyje zyje nam.
Sto lat, sto lat, niech zyje zyje nam.
Jeszcze raz, jeszcze raz, niech zyje, zyje nam.
Niech zyje nam!

In Polish, it means “Good luck, good cheer, may you live a hundred years!” And truly my mother’s legacy supersedes her. Love you, Mommy and Happy Birthday!
